"And a certain rich ruler asked him saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" Luke 18:18

Ever since time began, man has been searching for a redeemer, one that could save them from fear and death. Many years ago, a rich man came to Jesus asking what He must do to be saved, and though centuries have passed, men are still looking for the same answer.

At times it seems the church is guilty of adding to the scriptural plan of salvation until we make it sound hard and unreachable. We analyze God, and describe Him in such intellectual terminologies, that we put redemption over the heads of most ordinary people, leaving them in spiritual darkness. However, there is nothing any simpler than the Bible plan of Salvation. Here is is presented in five steps.

Step 1

"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

As Christians, we can beg, plead, and threaten, but you will never come to God, until you realize your need for God. I have met many people who were convinced that their good works were sufficient to warrant salvation. Not so! The Bible says even our RIGHTEOUSNESS is like filthy rags in God's sight.

Every man and woman has sinned. Everyone needs forgiveness or salvation.

Read John Chapter 3, Jesus told Nicodemus he must be born again. You, too, must be born again. Follow these simple steps and you will be.

Step 2

"Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12

After realizing your need for a Savior, you must recognize who your Savior is. God never said we could have eternal life by believing in Confucious, Buddha, a guru, or Hare Krishna. Neither a church, nor a preacher, can save you, you must turn to Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.

The good news is, He has made it easy for you to turn to him.

Step 3

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

Thirdly, you must confess your sins to God. Tell God that you realize your wrongdoings or sins, and you seek His forgiveness. (Sin has been defined as doing anything Jesus wouldn't do).

Many can apply James 4:2 to their salvation, "...Ye have not, because ye ask not." Ask Him today; He will forgive your sins.

Step 4

"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name;" John 1:12

The first three steps to your salvation are tangible, the fourth is invisible. You must reach out in simple faith, sometimes without feelings, and believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He has forgiven your sins. You must believe what God has promised you in the Bible is true.

Jesus said if you asked you would receive; He cannot lie. So if you have asked Him to forgive your sins, believe that salvation is yours and it will be yours!

Sound simple? Yes, it is simple, but it is true. That is why the gospel of Jesus Christ is so wonderful.

Step 5

"If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in His love." John 15:10

Salvation is just the beginning of a brand new life. To really be a Christian, you must follow Jesus everyday. You may have difficult days. Not everything about being a Christian is easy. There may be trials of your faith, but abide in Him, and He has promised His grace will be sufficient for you.

If you have not yet accepted Christ as your personal Savior, bow right where you are and pray this simple prayer:

God, I know that I am a sinner, and that only your Son, Jesus Christ, can be my Savior. I am asking you to forgive the sins of my old life, and give me a brand new life. By faith I believe that you have saved me, and now give me the strength to abide in you. Amen.
